Satin Fur Development
I'm making this page to show the development of Satin fur in my rats that I have in my program here in BRAT Rattery :) I've just recently found out that I even had the mutation that came with my Harley line that I started in December of 2011. Wow, am I really kicking myself now about that! lol How I come to find it now is in my most recent litter that was born on 2/27/2013. I noticed that one of the babies whiskers looked much different than the normal Standard whiskers that I've come to know and his fur was definitely not Harley, which was a possibility in this litter (1 Harley baby in this litter actually). The doe pictured to the left is the sister of my two Harley boys that I had adopted for the start of my Harley line. It's hard for me to tell, but I'm thinking she might be Satin too, but not 100% sure.
Day 15, 14 days old...Here are some pics of the Beige boys together showing how the Satin boy, Felix, is darker in color, which is one of the things known of Satin, for the color to be darker than it's same color Standard coated siblings. I've also added a pic of the Mink girl, Nellie, who might also be Satin, but I'm having a hard time telling for sure with her. Also I've added an individual picture of the lighter Beige boy, Wakie, to show his very Standard whiskers :)

Day 16...15 days old...Here's little Felix, one of my Satin babies. The only way I can tell him apart from his brother is how his fur lays flatter to his body and is a little longer and looking at his whiskers how they are a bit thinner and wave more into his cheeks :) His twin brother is Standard coated :)

Day 17...16 days old...Some more pics of Felix and one with his Standard coated brother, Wakie. You can see Felix on the bottom and Wakie on top, how Felix is a bit darker in color than Wakie...that is another way I was telling them apart and also another thing of Satins...they usually are a little darker in color than their same color littermates who are not Satin.
